Size is more important than appearance

The difference in the size of the forms in an object plays a bigger role in composition than the difference in its appearance.

So, if you want to create contrast between two objects, first make them different in size

The first thing we notice in a piece is the difference in size, and only then do we notice the difference in color

Light and dark

We always look first at the area of greatest contrast between light and dark.

By manipulating these contrasts, you can control the viewer's eye path and guide them to the most important parts of the composition.

Leave empty space

You dont always need to fill every inch of your canvas. Empty space is just as important as what is filled. It allows the artwork creating balance and guiding the viewer’s focus to the more significant elements of the composition.

Similarly, there's no need to detail every element—leaving some parts less defined can help keep the overall composition clean and focused.

Flip it horizontally

If you are working on digital art, you can flip your artwork horizontally from time to time to gain a fresh perspective.
